Ideas and Tips for Parents and Professionals

What About the Children?

What do children need most during this unprecedented global pandemic? Safety, security, and continuity. Above all else our children need to know that although things have changed and even adults can be unsure, we are focused on keeping them healthy and safe. Create some "new normal" routines with your children, cook, clean, organize, and be creative together. And by all means, talk, talk, talk! Your voice, your hugs, and your reassuring smile will go a long way to helping your children relax and regulate as you go through this time together.

Suddenly I'm the Teacher!

Well guess what, as frightening as this may have sounded to you several weeks ago when you realized that schools would be closing their doors, the truth is YOU are, and always have been your child's first teacher! Before your child ever learned one single thing in a classroom, you were there teaching, guiding and loving them along. Now that there is a "new normal" and you feel charged to teach your child at home, just remember this: young children learn best through authentic (real) and engaging experiences. Put down that workbook and pick up a cookbook! Drag out that box of toys, the crayons, scissor and scraps of material. Engage with your child in a variety of interesting and joyful activities around the house and I can promise you the math, literacy and science will come easily!
